Open Knowledge Internationally

The Open Knowledge (Formerly Open Knowledge Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2004 dedicated to promoting open knowledge in all its forms. We are a leader in this field nationally and internationally. We’re also a collaborative effort, made up of open data and open knowledge enthusiasts around the globe led by a core team who report to the Board. This is supplemented by the expertise of a distinguished Advisory Board.

Open Knowledge’s activities are organized around local working groups and collaborative projects. Each of these initiatives has a different focus, but all are united by a common set of concerns and traditions related to the widespread sharing of data and knowledge across borders.

One of our major functions is acting as a hub for work on open knowledge, drawing together representatives from across the knowledge society – from academics, public servants and entrepreneurs to data experts, archivists and web developers.

A main goal of our recent community work has been facilitating the creation of regionally-focused Local Chapters around the world, and Finland is one of the first locations to be a part of this initiative, along with our existing sister chapters in Germany and Brasil. Want to get involved in this new collaboration? We’d love to hear from you.

  1. Jarmo, what’s going to happen to Qaiku-videos (and other content) now that they quit (or were to quit already) (eg. blogi.sosiaalinenmediaopetuksessa.fi/…/qaiku-lopettaa-virtuaali-qellu…)
